Tummy troubles are the worst...

“BRAAAAAAAAAAP”

“Toot!”

"Pff," "Pt," "Phrrt"

…Is that you?

Hi, I’m Yoshi and I help people who struggle with gut health issues to identify the triggers and find the root causes so you can fuel your body without fearing the consequences. Spoiler: It’s not all in your mind… but it’s not all in your gut either!

I know how hard it is when, no matter what you do, your stomach feels under assault.

You’re wondering if food and your gut can ever be friends. You struggle with gas, pain, and bloating. Sometimes your digestive system doesn’t want to

move; other times you’re running to the bathroom. You’ve probably tried different medications, supplements, or eliminating certain foods from your diet (can you even remember when you last had a doughnut or breakfast burrito?).

But what works and what doesn’t seems like a crap shoot (pun intended). Maybe you’ve been formally diagnosed with IBS, an ulcer, or gluten sensitivity. Maybe you don’t need a formal diagnosis to know that there is something wrong with how your gut works. Whether you know the steps you need to take and need help implementing them, or you’re on a search for answers because you don’t know where to start, I can help!

I’m here to help you take control of the gut issues that are plaguing you.

I tried so many different ways of eating. Low fat. Lean protein. Meat and potatoes. Cutting sugar. Embracing sugar (pie for breakfast!). Processed convenience foods. Whole foods. Plant based. I could have been diagnosed with IBS, if there had been more awareness when I started suffering. It took me over 25 years to finally figure out that, for me, eating animal products made me feel worse (your results may differ!), and eating plant-based made me feel better… but it took more than a dietary change to finally feel normal. Because the problems weren’t just coming from my belly. My gut was where I was experiencing symptoms that originated in trauma. As a child growing up, I felt unsafe in my own home for as far back as I can remember. The unsteadiness of never knowing what I was going to walk into when I got home, or even left my room, has left lingering marks on me.

Understanding the gut-brain connection is the missing piece to finally feeling better. This is why I became a certified health and wellness coach, who is also certified in gut health nutrition AND trauma-informed coaching. Because it’s all connected.

For a long time, trauma, anxiety, and PTSD were treated as purely psychological issues, but emerging research shows the connection to gut health.

Your brain and your gut are in constant communication. Scientists call this the gut–brain axis. It’s a two-way system where the nervous system, immune system, hormones, and gut microbes all influence how you feel emotionally and physically. And it goes both ways: When you feel distressed, it affects the gut microbiome.

That’s why emotional experiences show up in the body so clearly.

A stressful conversation can make your stomach churn.

A frightening experience can feel gut-wrenching.

Anxiety before a big moment can bring on nausea or “butterflies.”

This means stomach pain, digestive issues, or nausea during stressful times are part of a real physiological feedback loop between the brain and the gastrointestinal system.

In other words: emotional stress doesn’t just affect your thoughts; it changes how the body functions—including how the gut moves, contracts, and responds.

To truly support healing, we have to pay attention to both sides of that conversation.

My work combines trauma-informed life coaching with health and nutrition coaching to help you get the full picture of what is causing your symptoms and how to alleviate them. You don’t need another elimination diet. You need someone who can help you look at the whole picture and come up with a plan.

Once I made the connection between my gut issues, my personal history, my current stressors, and foods that triggered bad reactions—my own plan began to form. For me, what works is eating plant-based meals that are full of unprocessed, whole foods, getting outside in nature, staying active, and practicing mindfulness.

Although there are still times when I feel like food isn’t necessarily my friend, the food I eat makes me feel nourished and gives me energy…and that hasn’t always been the case.

A little about me:

·   I am a pickleball addict, although sometimes I need help with keeping my eye on the ball.

·   A good day for me usually involves being covered in dirt and sweat, whether that’s from working in the yard, going on a hike, playing pickleball for hours, or throwing the frisbee with my pooch Maggie.

·   I am a bit of a science nerd and got a bachelor of science degree in biology because everyone knows you can’t make a living as a musician. Then I promptly became a professional singer for 16 years doing soulful covers of well-known songs, while happily watching listeners joyfully singing along.

·   I love working remotely because I can get paid while wearing sweats, and am proud to say that I recently had to replace not one, not two, but three pairs of my favorite sweatpants due to overuse.
